Jumping for Joy!

JOEY JUMPS FOR JOY!

There’s one extremely happy kangaroo in the Broome Wildlife Sanctuary down under. The kangaroo was almost blind due to cataracts but, thanks to Ethos Bright Eyes Drops for Pets, from Ethos Schweiz LLC in Geneva, the kangaroo can now see again.

Here’s the letter of thanks from Jan Martin, who found the drops while searching on the internet and contacted the company who very kindly sent a course of treatment to help the strickened animal.

Hi Peter,
I have attached 2 photos of before and after using the drops.  I have at least 3 animals developing cataracts at the moment and hoped I could take you up on your offer – will need at least 50 bottles. I have also been slowly convincing people that the drops are effective.
Thanks
Jan Martin

Ethos Bright Eyes Drops were originally developed for people but work equally as well with pets and other animals as clearly demonstrated by the photographs above. Instead of invasive surgery, a simple course of eye drops, containing the special ingredient N-Acetyl-Carnosine, are applied to each eye being treated, and these then go to work and dissolve the cataracts naturally.

Cataracts is a cross-linking of proteins in the lens of the eye and the Bright Eyes Drops reverse this cross-linking and restore the lens of the eye back to full clarity.

The average course of treatment, when treating two eyes, is six boxes applied over a period of six weeks. More severe and mature cataracts will require a longer course of treatment and mild to moderate cataracts can be cleared in less time.

Bright Eyes NAC Drops drops also help other eye conditions including; Glaucoma, Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), Dry Eye Syndrome and Floaters.

Human Trials Help Blindness in Dogs

Human Trials Help Blindness in Dogs

I don’t know about you but I am totally against using animals in testing medications and cosmetics for humans. But how would you feel if the roles were reversed and humans were used to test medications for animals?

That is virtually what has happened where the latest research on cures for blindness in humans is being used to successfully treat blindness in dogs and other animals.

There have been several clinical trials on the effectiveness of N-Acetyl-Carnosine (NAC) when used as eye drops for humans – see the bottom of this article if you really want to read all the technical reports. Improvements with cataracts, macular degeneration (AMD), Glaucoma, Dry Eye Syndrome and many other eye disorders have been recorded using drops containing NAC. A quick search on the internet will find hundreds of anecdotal testimonials from satisfied customers around the world. All of these people have been helped without having to resort to expensive eye surgery. In fact, the eye drops are becoming so successful there are now several companies marketing their own version of NAC eye drops.

But how can this help blindness in dogs? One of the most common causes of blindness in dogs (and other animals) is due to cataracts – often brought on as a consequence of diabetes. Several customers of the Ethos Bright Eyes drops started applying the “human” eye drops to their pet dogs. When they reported this back to the manufacturer, the company quickly developed an eye drop specifically for small animals such as dogs and cats.

Success stories now arrive on a weekly basis with dogs, cats and other pets. As with anything to do with animals – “good news travels fast” and last month we heard about the remarkable experience of Joey the Kangaroo in Western Australia.

If you think your dog (or kangaroo!) is having difficulty seeing or has been diagnosed with diabetes then a course of Ethos Bright Eyes pet drops can quickly and easily transform your pet’s standard of life.

You can find a full report on Joey the Kangaroo, Press Reports, how to apply the drops and so much more on www.petdrops.com

If you really want to read all the technical reports then the best place to start is to go to www.pubmed.com and do a Search on N-Acetyl-Carnosine – then take your pick.

HEALTHY DOG – AGING EYES

Canine cataracts can affect all breeds and ages of dogs. While certain breeds are prone to congenital cataracts and diabetic dogs often get cataracts, senile cataracts occur in dogs over 6 years of age.  Each of a dog’s eyes has a clear lens inside that is used for focusing, just as a camera lens.  A normal lens in the eye is made up of 66% water and 33% protein. A pump in the lens keeps this balance in check. When this fails, the protein fibers in the lens clump together creating a crushed-ice appearance when looking into your dog’s eye.

Nuclear sclerosis is very common in dogs older than 6 years of age. It is common for dog owners to think their dog has cataracts when they notice a pearl-like, grayish-blue reflective haze in their dog’s eyes in direct light.  Nuclear sclerosis is not a cataract and does not interfere with vision.  The lens has simply hardened with age. However, it’s very easy to confuse the two.  Your veterinarian can tell the difference between a cataract and nuclear sclerosis when they examine your dog’s eyes with an ophthalmoscope.

It’s easier to prevent cataracts than cure them.  Studies in people show that taking extra vitamin E and C reduced the risk of developing cataracts by approximately 86%.  The eye has a greater concentration of vitamin C than any other organ in the body.   Only a few species do not produce their own vitamin C, specifically: bats, humans, guinea pigs and primates.  Since dogs produce their own vitamin C, supplements for canines often don’t include it.  Make sure you examine the ingredients in your dog’s supplement to ensure it is included if your dog needs it.  A diet that is rich in antioxidants also helps to prevent cataracts.

A dog with cataracts should get vitamin A, C and E along with zinc in his diet.   Studies on lutein, a yellow carotenoid pigment, and cataract formation indicate that this carotenoid is a valuable tool in both preventing and treating cataracts.  Kale and carrots are excellent sources of lutein. Adding brightly colored fruits and vegetables to your dog’s diet will help to prevent cataracts along with other diseases such as cancer.  If impaired eyesight is causing your dog to bump into walls and furniture, choose 3 different scents or perfumes to help them identify where they are in the house.  Spray one scent low on the doorjambs on either side of the door.  Use another scent for the stairs.  You may need to use the third scent if he is also bumping into certain pieces of furniture. Dogs can compensate for lack of sight with smell.  Blind dogs quickly learn to navigate to the middle of doors and avoid the stairs with this technique!

There are drops, in addition to the dietary support mentioned above, that can be placed into your dog’s eyes which have been shown to reduce or eliminate cataracts.  Ethos Bright Eyes drops from Switzerland contains N-Acetyl-Carnosine.  Dogs with cataracts were found to be seriously deficient in this one particular antioxidant.  Peter Aldred, the CEO of Ethos Bright Eyes drops states,

“Our drops are deliberately buffered to have a pH of 6.4 for this allows the drops to penetrate the cornea and reach the lens of the eye.  This creates a momentary and slight stinging sensation but is needed to create a delivery mechanism for the anti-oxidant.”

“Animallover-Jan” in Anderson, Indiana, has been rescuing dogs and cats for over 40 years.  One of her rescues, a terrier beagle mix she named Gweedie Love, was diagnosed with senile cataracts when she was 8 years old.   Her sight deteriorated over the next two years and Jan then began giving her Ethos Bright Eyes drops for Pets.    Two months after starting the drops Jan was convinced of their efficacy.  Gweedie Love’s eyes were much clearer and she was navigating and playing just like she was before the cataracts appeared.   Gweedie Love is now 16 years old and still enjoying a quality life without the symptoms of cataracts.

Sight is a wonderful sense that enriches our furry friends’ lives as it does our own. By following the above recommendations, you can help ensure that your dog will enjoy its eyesight for many long years to come.

Testimonials

Bright Eyes Drops for Pets – IT WORKS!

My dog started to get cataracts over both eyes. The vet told us there was nothing that could be done until his eyes had fully crusted over. A few months down the line he was totally blind & we were told the operation would cost between 4 and 5 Thousand pounds. This was an unafordable option & in desperation I started to search the internet for another solution. I found this product & decided to try it. I have not yet told the vets I am using it. The dog is on his 4th bottle & can see clearly in daylight & only has problems with steps in darker surroundings. The vets checked him last week & confirmed that the swelling behind his eyes had gone & they were clearing up. I am waiting for his eyes to get a bit better at night before I tell the vet what I am using on his eyes. This way they will hopefully recommend the drops knowing that they work. If I had heard of them before searching the internet then maybe my dog wouldn’t have had to go blind before I did something about it !

Peter:

You and your company are a  class act , and it is really refreshing to deal with such an organization.

From the beginning, we had lots of questions regarding your drops, how to use them most effectively, and whether they would really improve the eyesight of our best friend, Rambo. At 17 years old, you can imagine how much we love him.  He has lost his teeth (we feed him soft food by hand), he is deaf, and he has completely lost his sight due to cataracts. Up until a year ago, he could see reasonably well, but 6 months ago we realized that he had completely lost his sight, because he continues to walk into walls.

We continue to worry about his quality of life, and we have talked about when, if ever, is the right time to let him go, and put him to sleep. But we believe that he still loves life, as he loves to still play with us, still is active, and has a great personality. We’re sure that he is still happy, and we take great care of him. At the point when he becomes lethargic, clearly in pain, etc, we will have to make that difficult decision.

When we read about your eye drops, we were so excited. To be honest, we were a bit skeptical. But after reading your entire website several times, and sending you numerous e-mails with many, many questions with responses from you that were prompt, detailed, and open, we knew we had to give it a try. Cost was not an issue, as we would gladly have even payed for surgery, if he wasn’t so old, and under great risk if he were to be put under anaesthesia.

Unfortunatly, in Rambo’s case, the drops didn’t work. But I really think that it is because of his age, and there has just been too much damage at this point. I would recommend your product to anyone else who might have a pet that is developing, or had recently been diagnosed with cataracts. I wish we would have learned of your product several years ago, as I’m confident that they might have been in time to correct Rambo’s problem.

I sent you an e-mail only 24 hours ago with the disappointing news that the drops had not been effective for Rambo, and your company has already credited the entire purchase price. No questions asked, no demand for invoices or empty bottles, and no hassle… I am really impressed.

Thanks again for the quality of your organization,

Kerry Lienberger

“Zoe the French Poodle Regains Her Sight!”

A friend of mine, Dr Hodgkinson, ordered some Bright Eyes drops for his dog Zoe who had cataracts back in October. Zoe is nearly 15 and he didn’t want to put her through the trauma of an op at her stage in life. Six weeks later Dr Hodgkinson was back on the phone saying that Zoe had barked at a horse outside the window for the first time in ages.

When I spoke to him after another six weeks he told me she is able to see other dogs now, he can tell as she now barks and has interaction with other dogs whereas beforehand she would not seem to notice them. (Dr Hodgkinson asked me to mention that his qualifications are electrical engineering and not medical.)

I’ve attached a picture he sent me of her so you can see what she looks like !

“IT’S A MIRACLE My Beautiful dog ‘Faith’ can see again! “

My Beautiful dog ‘Faith’, a miniature Schnauzer, became blind with Cataract 9 months ago and as she is also deaf her sight was especially precious to her.

After using your Bright Eyes drops for just two weeks the improvement is a MIRACLE.

She can not only make out shapes, she is also more alert and can make it to her food before the younger Schnauzer can muscle in. This is after just TWO!! weeks.

We look forward to her continued improvement and we can’t thank you enough.

I am telling dozens of people about your product and wish you every success.

“Eye Drops Help Man’s Best Friend ‘Angel’ to See Again!”

I thought you might be interested to know Bright Eyes also helps man’s best friend. Our Chihuahua had the first signs of cataracts with her eyes becoming opaque. After using Bright Eyes twice a day for four months her eyes became completely black again. I continued for a further two months to make sure they stayed clear. I am now using Bright Eyes as my optician informs me I have cataracts forming. I hope it works for me as well as it did for our dog.

“Winning the ‘Battle of Entropion’ Against a 70Kg TANK!”

Dear Ethos: Our dog “Tank”, a 70 Kg, Boerboel, who at 5 months manifested a condition called Entropion (his eyelids were turning in and scraping his corneas), and was very miserable. This is usually fixed by surgery, but you have to wait until the head is full grown. We had to wait 5 months. During that time, we tried other lubricant eye drops, but none worked as good as Bright Eyes. Tank would come up and blink a few times for his eye drops, when his eyes hurt. He has since had the surgery, but he still asks for his eye drops occasionally. We have had other older dogs that we have used the Bright Eyes on to keep them from getting cataracts. Prevention is always better than cure in my book!

Thanks for such a great product, and, of course, we always use them ourselves too.

Sincerely,

Candy Ostman, Los Angeles, USA

“Charlie Dog can see to walk without being on his lead again!”

Charlie dog has given his approval to use his photo which I will attach to this Email. I have a number of shots of him but this one shows off his features quite well, including his eyes which are both being treated with Bright Eyes.

Charlie is now 16 years old as far as we can tell as he was a rescue dog who was only going to stay with us for 2 days until Jo (Our daughter) could find him a home as he was due to be put down that weekend! As you can see 14 years later he is still alive and enjoying life and still with us. Over the last 2 years he has developed cataracts, in one eye initially, and last year the second eye has gone the same way. As Jo had spoken with you re the eye drops we have since over the last six weeks been administering Bright Eyes to both eyes and to date there has been a noticeable improvement in his sight and his confidence and personality have had a big boost.

We have over the last few months had to restrict his walks only on a lead as he would get completely disorientated – but this last week we have allowed him to walk without a lead albeit with a watchful eye from ourselves. This would not have been possible a month or two ago. We believe the improvement is slow but nevertheless has improved enough already to give him a better quality of life in his Autumnal years.

Please feel free Pete, to use any information you need out of this brief text and I will try to keep you updated to his progresses as we go along. Good news about the other trials and I will try and see the Richard and Judy Show when it is screened Thanks again Pete and kindest regards and success for the future to all the team!

“‘Bobbys’ Conjunctivitis cleared up within a week!”

Dear Sirs,

My 10-year-old cocker spaniel, Bobby, suffers from recurring conjunctivitis which causes the whites of his eyes to become quite red and inflamed. Bobby also has a blocked tear duct which doesn’t help matters. Conjunctivitis in dogs and cats is not usually caused by bacteria (as is the case with humans) but by some form of irritation – often dust or dirt – which leads to a reddening of the white eye tissue and swelling of the inner eyelids. I have been using Bright Eyes drops myself for a number of months to relieve eye tiredness from hours in front of the computer, and I decided to try them on Bobby’s eyes. The results were quite amazing! The redness and swelling cleared up within a week, the itchiness has obviously stopped and his eyes are now really bright and clear. The fact that Bright Eyes also helps prevent cataracts can only be described as an added bonus as many dogs develop cataracts. Thank you for a marvellous product which I can thoroughly recommend to all dog owners. I am happy in the knowledge that I’m doing all I can to enable Bobby to enjoy healthy eyesight for the rest of his life.

Kind regards,

Damian Howlett, Spain

“Your product really is fantastic and helped Minty to see again!”

Dear Peter,

Thank you very much for sending the Ethos eye drops. I was using them on my cat who unfortunately passed on recently. Minty had gone blind from cataracts and these eye drops where a real god send as they allowed Minty to enjoy her last days out in the sunshine rather than stuck on a bed frightened because she couldn’t see.

Your product really is fantastic and helped Minty who was over 18 years to see again. I’ll recommend your product to anybody. I don’t mind you using this letter as a testimonial and I have included some photos of Minty for you to use if you wish.

Yours Sincerely,

Tom S. Plymouth, UK

“Angelina the 6 month old Siberian Husky’s cataracts cured!”

Hello,

I wanted to tell you this is an awesome product!!!! It has cured Angelina, my 6 month old Siberian husky’s juvenile cataracts! Thank God!!!

Angelina had almost lost her sight completely at 6 months old. Angelina was walking into furniture and would fall off the curb when we would walk her.

If I would have had surgery on her, it would have altered her depth of perception. She did not require surgery and is completely healed.

Now I am trying this product on my older 4 year old Siberian husky called ReeKu who is slowly developing cataracts and wanted to fix it before it got bad.

Thanks for everything and when I have the next vet appointment I will be sure to tell them of your product!

Thanks so much for your miraculous product! Sincerely,

Mary Lynn Marsico RN BSN – VA Hospital in Pittsburgh PA

If only they could live for ever…
Unfortunately, it’s a very sad fact of life that our faithful four-legged friends have a much shorter life span than us humans do. As they age they become more and more prone to illness and debilitating diseases but now there is a brand new product available called Ethos Elan vital for pets which works at a cellular level to promote good health, wellness and longevity.
Ethos Elan vital for pets contains the very purest form of Ignotine which is naturally occurring in all mammals and, interestingly enough, there is a direct correlation between the amount of Ignotine present and overall life expectancy. Humans are born with much more Ignotine in their bodies than animals are but even this starts to diminish with age, and this is thought to be a major contributing factor to the ageing process itself.
Ethos Elan vital for pets is simply dissolved in your pets’s drinking water and is tasteless, colourless and odourless, so they won’t even know that they are taking it.
Ethos Elan vital for pets – For longevity and wellbeing – naturally…
Ethos Elan vital for pets is the most advanced designer health supplement on the market and contains 99.9% pure Ignotine. This is the only compound which has been proved scientifically to actually rejuvenate cells. Among its many amazing health properties, it goes to work making your pet’s old body cells younger again as soon as your pet starts receiving it!
Ignotine is a natural product found in all mammals and consists of the amino acids beta-alanine and L-histidine chemically bound to each other and is known scientifically as N-beta-alanyl-histidine. Nerve cells (neurons) and muscle cells (myocytes) contain high levels of Ignotine. Ignotine is NOT a drug, vitamin or mineral and it does not react with any drugs. Pets are born with high levels of Ignotine in their bodies but unfortunately it decreases with age. The good news is that you can now replenish their supplies of Ignotine naturally with a daily supplementation of Ethos Elan vital for pets which is the very purest form of Ignotine available.
Ignotine is the most effective anti-carbonylation agent yet discovered. (Carbonylation is a pathological step in the age-related degradation of your pet’s body’s proteins.) Ignotine helps to prevent skin collagen cross-linking which leads to loss of elasticity, macro-molecular disorganisation, and loss of extra cellular matrix.
Ignotine is a SuperAntiOxidant that quenches even the most destructive free radicals: the hydroxyl and peroxyl radicals, superoxide, and singlet oxygen. Ignotine helps to chelate ionic metals (flush toxins from your pet’s body).
It also acts as a regulator of zinc and copper concentrations in nerve cells, helping to prevent over stimulation by these neuroactive minerals. What is known about the biological role of Ignotine in the body substantiates all of the above and other studies have indicated further benefits.
When given as a natural health supplement Ethos Elan vital for pets protects and extends the functional life of the body’s key building blocks – cells, proteins, DNA and lipids.
Long-lived cells such as nerve cells, called neurons, and muscle cells, called myocytes, naturally contain high levels of Ignotine and these muscle levels of Ignotine correlate exactly with maximum life spans.
Ethos Elan vital for pets is 100% safe and 100% hypoallergenic – it is naturally occurring in many foods and in the body itself.
Studies on the Rejuvenating Effects of Ignotine have shown
Anti-Carbonylation: Carbonylation is a pathological step in the age-related degradation of your pet’s body’s proteins and Ignotine is the most effective anti-carbonylation agent yet discovered.
Antioxidant: Ignotine effectively quenches the most destructive of free radicals, the hydroxyl radical, as well as super oxide, singlet oxygen, and the peroxyl radical.
Cell Rejuvenation: Ignotine has the unique and quite remarkable ability to actually rejuvenate cells approaching senescence (the end of the life cycle of dividing cells), restoring normal appearance and extending their cellular life-span.
Wound Healing: Ignotine has the amazing ability to rejuvenate connective tissue cells and thus expedites wound healing.
Brain Protection: Ignotine protects the microvasculature of the brain from plaque formation that may lead to senility and Alzheimer’s disease.
Improved Calcium Response: Ignotine enables the heart muscle to contract more efficiently through enhancement of calcium response in heart myocytes.
Cellular DNA Protection: Ignotine protects cellular DNA from oxidative damage that accumulates with age.
Skin Protection: Ignotine helps prevent skin collagen cross-linking which leads to loss of elasticity, macro-molecular disorganisation, and loss of extra cellular matrix.
Ethos Elan vital for pets Rejuvenates Cells
Cultures of senescent cells cannot be mistaken for younger cells, which are uniform in appearance and line up in parallel arrays. By contrast, senescent cells exhibit a grainy appearance and take on odd shapes and sizes. They lose the ability to organise themselves in a regular pattern. These striking changes are called the senescent phenotype. A dipeptide (chemical union of two amino acids) called Ignotine has been shown to rejuvenate cells displaying the senescent phenotype, quickly restoring the juvenile phenotype (McFarland GA et al., 1999; McFarland GA et al., 1994). Below are three photographs of human cells grown in culture.

For best results: the recommended daily intake of Ethos Elan vital for pets is one teaspoon a day. We suggest giving your pet half a teaspoon in the morning and half a teaspoon again in the evening, preferably at least 30 minutes before their meals. Simply dissolve it mixed into their drinking water.
Unlike many health supplements, Ethos Elan vital for pets is completely tasteless, colourless and odourless so your pet won’t even know that they are taking it … until you begin to see all their beneficial results for yourself.
In an experiment to scientifically prove the incredible anti-ageing benefits of supplementation with Ignotine, one thousand mice were given Ignotine daily in their drinking water and another thousand weren’t. They were kept and raised in exactly the same controlled living environment and we will leave you to draw your own conclusions from the picture below.
Both mice are brothers of identical age!
There is nothing whatsoever wrong with either of the mice in the picture apart from simply old age! This brilliantly demonstrates the incredibly powerful anti-ageing benefits of Ignotine when it is given regularly and on a daily basis. As your pet ages, which of the two mice above would you rather he/she looks like?
Ethos Elan vital Anti-Ageing BioCellular ReJuvenation for pets is the only product on the market that is actually proved scientifically to work at a cellular level, rejuvenating cells and holding back the signs of ageing naturally. It is also the only Ignotine product that is backed and endorsed wholeheartedly by Professor Steven Charles Gallant and his many years research into anti-ageing medicine and the true wonders of Ignotine.

Cataracts for dogs are very rampant, especially for those dogs that are already aging. When the impacted dog has gone through a comprehensive evaluation to ascertain whether it is a viable applicant for surgery, a little cut is made in the eye, and a hole is created inside the capsular bag where the lens of the eye is located. A unique probe ultrasonically emulsifies the lens which is then sucked out using a minute vacuum device. When the lens with the cataracts has been taken away, a new synthetic intraocular lens (IOL) or perhaps Intra ocular lens is then inserted and positioned within the capsular bag and this is the most common treatment for cataracts for dogs. Therefore a surgical procedure will most likely display to some extent an improvement regarding improved vision however, it is still not even close to an ideal remedy. Following on from an uncomplicated cataract extraction, vision will be improved even if the lens is not replaced. This gives the dog what has been called ‘functional vision’ i.e. the dog can then generally navigate without bumping into things but will often still have difficulty with depth perception and playing with toys. You will find that there is a selection of intraocular lenses readily available for canines. In animal patients where the use of glasses or contact lenses isn’t possible, the need for intraocular corrective lenses is even greater than that of humans. The refractive power of the lens needed is determined by the axial length of the globe, the curvature of the cornea, and the location of the replacement lens within the eye. In humans, a lens of 16-18 diopters is generally used; measurements in dogs eyes usually indicate that a lens of 40-43 diopters is required. Thus, dogs stand to benefit greatly from the use of a replacement intraocular lenses.

During the post operation period, pet dogs could have a lot more irritation in their eyes plus there is often more scarring damage than in human beings. This kind of scarring damage really does little to reduce eye-sight and, despite the fact that nearly all owners observe a rise in their dogs perspective right after a cataract removal surgical procedure. Like any living thing, they should be properly looked after and taken care of by their owners, thus any problems such as dogs cataracts should be diagnosed and treated as early on as possible. Many experts state that dogs cataracts is one disease that is most likely to attack your favorite pet in later years. Dogs cataracts can develop in all types of breed of dogs. A great number of veterinarians can also say that this particular type of condition has an effect on various ages and several other forms of canines.

Dogs cataracts develop naturally with old age and are caused by a cross-linking of proteins in the lens of the eye and it is fact that cataracts affects most species of pet dogs. The phrase cataract really means a clouding or opacification of the natural lens of the eye. In lots of circumstances the milky eye from the dog is simply not because of canine cataracts, nevertheless to your condition that is generally known as ‘nuclear sclerosis.’ Most dogs’ cataracts grow in very much the same fashion, despite the fact that right now there are several causes. A normal dog eye is actually managed on exactly what is known to as any not properly hydrated state. In which is to say it comprises of sixty percent of liquid and also thirty-three percent of protein. Presently there is a great complex sodium water pump motor system which can greatly affect the salt level in the dogs body.

Bright Eyes drops were originally developed to treat humans but they work equally as well with pets and all other animals. Cataracts in dogs is very common as they age and especially if they have diabetes. In fact, seventy-five percent of all dogs diagnosed with cataracts will develop cataracts within one year of the first diagnosis and it can develop very rapidly, literally overnight in some very severe cases. Because of age, other complications, and the costs involved, it is not always possible for pets to undergo cataracts surgery and our Ethos Bright Eyes drops for pets provide an excellent and natural alternative to help restore your pets vision back to full clarity again.

The actual age from which a pet usually exhibits indications regarding developing cataracts is actually very significant in discovering the kind of cataract. The age of onset might aid in deciding if the actual cataracts are inherited or possibly trauma related. Congenital dogs cataracts exist at birth and genetic cataracts usually occur on both of the pet dogs eyes. You might think that genetic cataracts are passed down from the parents but this is not necessarily the case as puppies can be susceptible to bacterial contamination and/or poisons while still in the womb. Developmental cataracts begin earlier in the dogs life and may well be inherited or caused by other things within the dogs natural environment. Inherited cataracts in an earlier age tend to be more common in certain dog breed. Cataracts which happen in dogs in excess of the age of six years old tend to be referred to as senile cataracts.

Nuclear sclerosis is a hardening of the lens of the eye and causes the lens to have a grayish appearance and is commonly confused with senile cataracts. This greyish-blue haze increases as the dog ages but is NOT a cataract, and does not usually interfere with the dogs vision. Nuclear sclerosis also occurs in humans, and the hardening of the lens with age results in reduced near-vision and this is one reason why people in their 40′s and older need reading glasses because their lenses no longer are soft enough to easily change shape to allow for near vision. Another name for this is presbyopia, which means ‘old eye’.

It is almost impossible to tell the difference between nuclear sclerosis and cataract in your dog. Even having your family veterinarian evaluate your dog’s eyes might not give you a definitive answer as it is even very difficult for a doctor who is not an ophthalmologist to differentiate between these two conditions. However, veterinary ophthalmologists can tell the difference between nuclear sclerosis and cataract; using specialised equipment and their expertise so it is well worth making sure that you see a specialist to get an accurate diagnosis in the first place and before considering any type of treatment. Also, keep in mind that dogs can develop both nuclear sclerosis and cataracts at the same time.

Dogs also can adapt well if one eye is blind from cataract and the other is not. Often they adapt so well that their owner does not even realise that their dog cannot see out of one eye. Dogs can also adapt well, up to a point, even if both eyes gradually develop severe cataracts; dogs can develop a ‘memory map’ as to where things are in their familiar environment. So also keep in mind that dogs with poor vision usually do not let their owners know that they have a vision problem until it is severe in both eyes. Therefore is is advisable to have a regular check up carried out by a specialist veterinary ophthalmologists so that any eye conditions can be detected early on and treatment started.

Inherited cataracts within pet dogs may well occur on their own or may be affected simultaneously with other conditions of the eye. Obviously a pet dog that is diagnosed with inherited cataracts should not necessarily be used for breeding. Trauma resulting from any kind of dangerous incident can certainly also affect the eye of the pet and cause cataracts to start developing in the injured eye. Fructose is actually also produced, coming from extra glucose, and this also contributes to the issue. Unfortunately, in many of these cases they can easily become very hostile dogs. Cataracts, as well as other conditions of the eye, will eventually lead to blindness if left untreated. This can take several years or just months depending upon the cause of the dogs cataracts. Diabetes is one of the commonest causes of dogs cataracts and all diabetic dogs will develop cataracts because of the constant infusion of sugars into the lens of the eye. If this is the case then the diabetes also needs to be addressed at the same time as treating the cataracts.
